Gardaí investigate reported rape in North Strand area in early hours of Wednesday

Gardaí say they are following a definite line of enquiry following the alleged rape of a young woman in Drogheda in the early hours of Wednesday.

A Garda spokesman said the woman, who is in her late teens, alleges she was raped on a street off the North Strand area of the town between 12.30am and 1am.

The woman reported the incident to gardaí within 20 minutes and the area was sealed off for forensic examination.

She was brought to the sexual assault unit at the Rotunda Hospital in Dublin.

The spokesman said the investigation is ongoing and a file will be prepared for the DPP in due course.
