Some criminals may actually develop an addiction to their criminal activity, according to research presented by Mr John Hodge, head of psychological services at the Rampton Hospital Authority, Sheffield.

"Quite a large proportion of those who commit repetitive crime have some level of addiction" to the activity itself, he suggested, and so techniques developed to control excessive gambling and alcohol use might prove helpful in preventing future crimes by these individuals. The addiction component potentially applied to any type of crime.
