Peter McAlister, restaurant manager at the Culloden Estate Spa in Belfast, has won the 2012 UK Restaurant Manager of the Year award. Mr McAlister received the award ahead of three of his peers in the final at the Westbury Mayfair Hotel in London.

“Peter McAlister was extremely professional as well as having a warm personality and good management skills,” said John Croft, Academy of Food and Wine Services executive director. “The judges were unanimous in awarding him the title. He will be a great ambassador for the industry.”

Mr McAlister (31) has worked at the Culloden Estate Spa for 15 years. This is his third time as a finalist in the competition, which tests the managers on wine and food knowledge, business acumen, management ability and customer service skills.

“I have loved every minute of the competition, it has been so exciting. It has been a big team effort – I’ve had a lot of support from my colleagues and my general manager,” said Mr McAlister.
