The Oireachtas committee set up to inquire into the conduct of Judge Brian Curtin is awaiting the perfecting of the Supreme Court order on the judge's unsuccessful challenge to its work before proceeding with a number of matters, according to its chairman, Fianna Fáil Cork South West TD, Denis O'Donovan.
However, it is preparing a response to a three-page letter sent by Judge Curtin to the committee on March 15th, seeking assurances about the security of the computer and his constitutional rights.
Some of the legal work of the committee has been held up by the fact that one of its senior counsel, Kevin Feeney, can no longer work for it, as he has been appointed to the High Court.
The committee discussed a replacement for Mr Justice Feeney and is understood to have tried unsuccessfully yesterday to contact Shane Murphy SC to ask him to take up the position.
The committee has examined the Supreme Court judgment in detail and is now awaiting its decision on costs, as well as the perfecting of its orders.
The committee will be pursuing its costs against Judge Curtin vigorously, according to Mr O'Donovan.
"As far as the committee is concerned, we were taken to court and we won," he said.
The outcome of this hearing may affect the manner in which the judge proceeds in relation to the committee, he added.
The committee also discussed a shortlist of potential experts to examine Judge Curtin's computer.
The clerk of the committee will be contacting a number of international experts concerning their availability, and will report back to the committee when it next meets.
This is likely to be on Tuesday, April 4th, provided the Supreme Court has held its hearing on costs by then, as it is expected to do.
If not, the meeting is likely to be deferred pending the outcome of the Supreme Court hearing.
