The failure of the Government to establish the Rail Procurement Agency before the Dail’s summer recess is a serious blow to plans for Dublin's proposed Metro and Luas systems, according to the Dublin Chamber of Commerce.
The Railway Procurement Agency, which will be responsible for developing the vital Metro and Luas lines in Dublin, was due to start work before the Dail summer recess.
However, Dublin's commuters will now have to wait until the Autumn at the earliest before this vital institution is set up. As a result important planning work on the Metro and additional Luas lines will fall behind schedule.
"This serious setback to the plans for a Metro must call into question the government's commitment to solving Dublin's transport chaos," Mr Declan Martin, Director of Policy, Dublin Chamber of Commerce, said:
"This agency was only a first step in creating the Metro and additional Luas lines.
"A major setback at such an early stage bodes badly for the capital's massive transport programme which will be implemented over the next sixteen years."
