Northside Dart services to and from Tara Street station in Dublin are expected to operate as normal this morning, despite major disruption to rail services due to overhead line damage yesterday evening.
The disruption left northbound Dart passengers without a full service from 4.40pm yesterday. Although services were restored from Killester onwards, Iarnród Éireann subsequently suspended all northbound Dart services from 8.45pm last night.
It said this was to allow staff time to repair the overhead line damage and to ensure normal services operate this morning.
Earlier, northern commuter rail services were also severely disrupted during the peak rush hour period. Iarnród Éireann spokesman Barry Kenny estimated that some 10,000 passengers were affected by the disruption.
All northern commuter and northside Dart services had initially been curtailed as a result of the damage to the overhead power lines north of Connolly station, where a Dart was also blocking lines. However, some commuter services were subsequently restored, with delays.
But last night's decision to suspend all northern Dart and commuter services prompted Iarnród Éireann to say it would arrange alternative bus transfers for commuters travelling north of Balbriggan.
Maynooth commuter services and Sligo Intercity services continued to operate last night.
The 8.10pm Belfast-Dublin train terminated in Malahide, with bus transfer to Dublin.
Dublin Bus was last night accepting rail tickets on its routes for commuters travelling to the north side and was also honouring rail tickets to and from Balbriggan.
Bus Éireann said it would honour tickets for areas north of Balbriggan.
