Two young cousins who suffered food poisoning after eating takeaways from a Chinese restaurant have been awarded a total of £13,000 damages at Dublin Circuit Civil Court. The Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Smyth, heard that Joseph Morrison (7), of Whitestown Avenue, Clonsilla, and Megan Boyd (9), of Fairlawn Road, Finglas, had eaten barbecued pork ribs and chicken curry. Ms Mary Rose Gearty, counsel for both, said the food had been purchased at the Golden Time Chinese Takeaway at Blakestown Road, Clonsilla, on October 15th, 1999.
Ms Gearty said Joseph Morrison developed salmonella and had been treated in Cherry Orchard Hospital after suffering abdominal cramps and dehydration. Megan Boyd had suffered to a lesser degree but also had to be hospitalised.
Mr Justice Smyth awarded £9,000 damages to Joseph Morrison and £4,000 to Megan Boyd. The money will be invested in court-managed funds until they are 18.
