CITIZENSHIP:PRESIDENTIAL candidate Dana Rosemary Scallon has said she has a document which shows she did not become an American citizen until October 1999.

Her sister Susan Stein told an Iowa court in 2008 that, at a meeting with Dana’s husband, Damien Scallon, and her brother, John Brown, before the 1997 election, it was decided it “wouldn’t look very good” if people in Ireland knew she was an American citizen.

She said it was decided Ms Scallon would not disclose the fact she had US citizenship unless she was asked. She had made the claim during a bitter legal dispute with family members over the ownership of some of her religious recordings.

Ms Scallon said yesterday she was not allowed to copy the relevant document, but she had copied an extract from it which showed she became a US citizen on October 8th, 1999. She also said her husband and brother had no recollection of a conversation taking place of the nature mentioned by Ms Stein in 1997.
