"Soon to be a major motion picture starring Michelle Pfeiffer," declares the cover inside, however, things are not a bad as might be feared. LouAnne Johnson is apparently a for real teacher and this is apparently the story of some for real kids in one of New York's toughest neighbourhoods and anybody who has ever stood in front of a class of hostile teenagers and attempted to teach them English will admire her gritty, witty approach. No doubt the movie, now showing in Dublin, will solve the educational problems of the developed world the book doesn't claim to, and is all the more heart warming for it.
