England's Danny Murphy was today ruled out of the World Cup after falling prey to the same foot injury as David Beckham.
Sven-Goran Eriksson's injury woes were deepened as the Liverpool midfielder followed team-mate Steve Gerrard in being ruled out of his plans.
Eriksson, who already has further midfield worries over Beckham, Nicky Butt, and Kieron Dyer, is now set to redeem Trevor Sinclair by recalling him from stand-by in England.
Murphy was confirmed to have fractured the second metatarsal bone of his left foot during a scan today.
