DART claims 90% punctuality

Iarnrod Éireann has claimed it had more than a 90 per cent punctuality rate in its DART and commuter services last year.

The company said that under the passengers' charter its target was that 95 per cent of all DART services, and 90 per cent of all commuter trains. would arrive in the city centre within 10 minutes of published times.

"Last year Iarnród Éireann achieved a 92.7 per cent punctuality rate on DART services and 90 per cent on commuter services," the statement added.

It described as "alarmingly simplistic" criticism by the PD senator, Mr Tom Morrissey.

"Iarnród Éireann operates trains in every single available path our signalling allows at peak times, unlike any other urban railway system in Europe," it added. "In this environment, our punctuality stands comparison with other railways."

Meanwhile, the pressure group, Dart Users Action Committee, has written to the managing director of Iarnród Éireann, Mr Joe Meagher, complaining about the DART and commuter services and criticising the 9 per cent increase in fare prices.
