The Court of Criminal Appeal today set down July 24th as the date for the State's appeal against the leniency of the sentences imposed on two men convicted of the manslaughter of Det Garda Jerry McCabe.

Pearse McAuley from Strabane, Co Tyrone, and Kevin Walsh from Patrickswell, Co Limerick, were convicted of the killing last year, following the shooting in Adare, Co Limerick on June 7th, 1996.

The two men are serving their sentences at Castlerea prison in Co Roscommon.

There has been criticism in the past because of the amount of temporary release time both men have been granted.
