Williams-BMW's appeal against the punishment imposed on Ralf Schumacher for causing the first-corner smash at last Sunday's German Grand Prix will be heard in Paris on August 19th.

The German faces being demoted 10 places down the grid from his qualifying position at the race in Hungary on August 24 if the appeal fails.

Schumacher was blamed by the race stewards in Hockenheim for causing the collision which also took out McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello.

The 28-year-old had admitted to the stewards that he had paid no attention to the position of other drivers as they raced from the start.

Raikkonen's car was left disabled after he smashed into a tyre barrier though the accident effectively ended Ralf Schumacher and Barrichello's title hopes.

Williams initially said they would not appeal the decision but soon changed their minds and it will be heard by the International Court of Appeal set by FIA, the sport's world governing body, at their Paris headquarters.

The court's decision will be announced the following day.
