New York - David Merrick, one of Broadway's most flamboyant and successful theatrical producers, has died in London, aged 88.

New York - David Merrick, one of Broadway's most flamboyant and successful theatrical producers, has died in London, aged 88.

Producer of more than 80 plays and musicals, his best-known works were Gypsy (1959), Beckett (1960), Hello, Dolly! (1964), 42nd Street (1980) and Oh, Kay! (1990). He suffered a stroke in the early 1980s that affected his speech and for the rest of his life he used a wheelchair.
