Tottenham midfielder Simon Davies has had the red card he received in last weekend's 3-0 north London derby defeat by Arsenal rescinded, the Football Association (FA) confirmed today.
Wales international Davies was sent off by referee Mike Riley on Saturday for his second bookable offence, a tackle on France's Patrick Vieira, after a seemingly harmless challenge on England full-back Ashley Cole had resulted in a caution.
However, he still faces a one-match ban for collecting his fifth yellow card of the season.
A statement on the FA's website said: "We can confirm that following the match between Arsenal and Tottenham this weekend, referee Mike Riley has rescinded the first caution issued to Simon Davies."
But Davies, who scored for Wales in their 2-1 Euro 2004 qualifying defeat of Italy last month, will still miss Tottenham's Premiership match against Birmingham City on November 30th.
