Steve Davis finally got one over on John Higgins to reach the quarter-finals of the £450,000 Welsh Open in Cardiff today.
He had lost 19 successive matches to Higgins but rewrote the form book today to win 5-2 and advance to the last eight of a ranking event for the first time since the Irish Masters last March.
Ronnie O'Sullivan coasted into the quarter-finals with a routine 5-2 defeat of Joe Perry while Alan McManus came from 4-1 down to edge 2002 world champion Peter Ebdon 5-4 in a match which included four centuries.
Ireland's Ken Doherty meets Marco Fu later tonight. The winner will play Stephen Hendry who beat Jimmy White earlier.
