The death has occurred in Dublin of Mr Liam Breen, aged 87, who, as secretary and president, was the driving force behind the John McCormack Society in Ireland from the 1950s to the 1990s.
Mr Breen was a well-known Dublin record retailer. He ran a busy outlet in Liffey Street for many years which fostered his interest in Count John McCormack, and from where he arranged many recitals for the society, procuring the services of well-known singers during that period.
His collection of McCormack memorabilia was loaned to the National Concert Hall on its opening and held pride of place in the John Field Room for many years. Mr Breen was born in Wexford and was a staunch supporter of the county teams.
He is survived by his wife Una and a daughter and three sons.
