CHICAGO - Women who are physically active after menopause can reduce their risk of premature death by 30 per cent, according to a study published yesterday.

Dr Lawrence Kushi, a professor of epidemiology who headed the University of Minnesota study, said. "Simply incorporating some form of moderate activity in their daily lives will have a positive impact, long term."

The study of more than 40,000 women aged 55 to 69, in this week's Journal of the American Medical Association, found that women who were moderately active two to four times a week reduced their risk of premature death by 30 per cent and those who were moderately active four times a week had a 38 per cent lower risk.
