Seven more people have died in a heatwave sweeping Bangladesh, bringing the death toll to 42 in the past week as meteorologists today predicted no respite in the coming few days.

The new fatalities were recorded yesterday in north and northwestern Bangladesh, newspapers reported.

The highest recorded temperature this season in Bangladesh was 41.4°C (106.5 Fahrenheit) last week in a northwestern district, but the temperature eased a little yesterday.

Bangladeshis are awaiting the start of the monsoon season for relief from the scorching heat, which is made worse by high humidity.
