Two young men killed in a road accident in Waterford on Thursday have been named as Mr Ivan Duffin (19), Burkstown, Ballycullane, Co Wexford, and Mr David Browne (18), Boley, Ballycullane, Co Wexford.
The two died after their car collided with an articulated truck on the Waterford-New Ross road.
Their deaths bring the number of people killed on Irish roads this month to 30. The total number of fatalities so far this year stands at 168, down 18 on the same period last year.
Up to four people were seriously injured in a road accident in Limerick yesterday, involving a truck and two cars at Gooig, Castleconnell. They were taken to Limerick Regional Hospital, and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Gardaí have also identified a man killed near Dundalk on Thursday in a head-on collision between a van and an articulated lorry on the M1 as Mr Ian Halliday (35), Lisburn, Co Antrim.
On Monday Mr Thomas Brady (74), Killygowan, Co Cavan, died when his tractor struck a ditch at Kilmore Lower, Cavan. Ms Rose McDaid (50) died in a road accident at Ballyholey, Raphoe, Co Donegal, the same day.
Meanwhile, in Australia, Ms Nicola Ryan (27), Curracloe, Co Wexford, died in a road traffic accident in Perth on Wednesday. Full details are not yet known. The Department of Foreign Affairs is offering consular assistance to the family.
