The future of a proposed major new shopping centre for Naas in Co Kildare will be decided by the town council within weeks.
The complex will include a floor area of more than 22,000 sq m, with 43 retail units, 747 car-parking spaces, a department store, restaurant, bar and pedestrian plaza.
The development will be located on a 1.3-hectare site at St Corban's car-park behind the Bank of Ireland.
Last month Naas Town Council indicated that it intended to grant planning permission to Marshalsea Property.
However, the proposed centre materially contravenes the Naas town development plan of 1999. and councillors will have to take a vote to change the zoning of the area.
There have been several objections to the project. The objectors include two nearby schools, St Corban's Primary School and Meanscoil Iognaid Ris, and local residents including the Millbrook Residents' Association.
They say they are worried about the increase in traffic in the area.
With more than 1,000 primary and secondary pupils accessing the schools on roads leading to the development, parents and teachers are worried for their safety.
The schools are also concerned about the lack of cycle lanes, continuous footpaths and traffic-calming measures in the area, as well as noise pollution during construction.
"The movement of a projected figure of 3,262 cars going to and from the proposed new development will further compromise the safety of our pupils," said St Corban's Primary School in its objection to the development.
No date has been set for the material contravention vote, but a decision is due from town council planners on May 24th.
