A decision is expected this morning on whether Dublin Corporation will object to Iarnrod Eireann's plans for major reconstruction work around Heuston Station over the bank holiday weekend.
The decision follows a meeting between city planners and Iarnrod Eireann management yesterday and revolves around whether planning permission is required for the proposed demolition and replacement of Sarsfield Road bridge.
Iarnrod Eireann intends to close Heuston station for work to facilitate its Kildare Route Project - effectively the doubling of lines between Dublin and Kildare. According to notices in yesterday's newspapers the company intends to substitute trains with a limited number of bus services between Dublin and Kildare. Passengers have already been advised to travel on another weekend if possible.
A spokesman for Dublin Corporation confirmed senior planners were meeting Iarnrod Eireann staff yesterday and a decision on whether enforcement action will be taken by the corporation is to be reached this morning.
