The towering Monument of Light on Dublin's O'Connell Street is set for a make-over this weekend, but the clean-up may cause some traffic delays, Dublin City Council has warned.
A huge crane will be erected today to help clean the 120-metre high Spire, which was completed in 2003 at a cost of some €4 million.
O'Connell St northbound will be reduced to one lane from 12am today until 6am on Tuesday June 5th.
Tomorrow, June 3 rd, O'Connell St southbound will be reduced to one lane from 7am until 12am on Monday.
Southbound from Cathal Brugha St to Abbey St will close again on Monday from 12am until 6am on Tuesday.
Traffic will be diverted down Cathal Brugha St, Marlborough St and onto the quays. Temporary closures are to facilitate the cleaning of the spire.
Dublin city will also suffer traffic delays tonight as Meat Loaf plays in the Point Theatre at 7pm. AA Roadwatch warns of likely delays on the north quays, North Wall Quay, East Wall Rd and at the Eastlink tollbridge.
In Cork, O'Connell St & Lapps Quay will close today from 7.30am to 7pm and Kennedy Quay, Marina Walk and Mill Rd are closed from 1pm to 6pm due to the Ocean to City event in the city.
The boat race, now in its third year, will start at Crosshaven and finish at Lapp's Quay.
