Computer giant Dell is to create up to 50 jobs at a new research and development facility at its Limerick base, Employment Minister Micheal Martin said today.
The information technology company is establishing an engineering centre to research and develop wireless communication technology and software products and will collaborate with research groups at the University of Limerick.
As many as 50 research and development staff will be recruited over a four-year period to work at the new Engineering Centre of Competency for Communications and Network Product Development, Mr Martin said.
"This investment by Dell is another major endorsement of Ireland as a location for R&D, coming as it does from a global leader in the technology industry and so soon after a significant R&D announcement by five other multinational companies recently.
"In particular, the business and academic collaboration is exactly the kind of investment that is being actively sought for Ireland ," the minister said. Dell, which employs 4,500 people in Ireland , has been established in the country since 1990, with its European manufacturing base in Limerick and support bases in Bray, Co Wicklow and Cherrywood, Co Dublin.
