St Michael's estate in Inchicore, Dublin, is to be demolished, Dublin Corporation's housing committee was told yesterday by Corporation officials. It will be replaced by four or five low-density housing developments nearby.
Planning permission for the first phase of the replacement of the Ballymun tower blocks will be sought by the end of the year, according to Ballymun Regeneration Ltd - the company developing the new town of Ballymun.
Two of the seven 15-storey towers and two of the 19 eightstorey blocks are earmarked for demolition in the first phase, to begin in 2000.
