The manager of the City of Derry airport was suspended today after an investigation claimed major work was needed to improve safety measures.
Seamus Devine has been temporarily suspended while the airport's owners, Derry City Council, carry out an internal inquiry. That inquiry is expected to take at least a week.
Chief executive Tony McGurk is still off on annual leave.
The airport was closed for four days last month after an inspection by the Civil Aviation Authority.
An immediate independent inquiry was then carried out by aviation expert Peter Hampson who claimed a systematic failure of safety management.
A report also said some staff believed their competence for the number and variety of tasks they undertook were often insufficient because of minimal training.
Mr Devine's suspension is in line with normal procedures in inquiries such as this, and he will be interviewed by the council's team of inquiry.
