Derry City 1 Bohemians 0:An extra-time goal from Derry City's Kevin McHugh kept the eircom League Cup on Foyleside for a third consecutive year this evening, this time at the expense of Bohemians.

McHugh struck in the seventh minute of extra-time when he hit a sweet shot from the edge of the box past Brian Murphy and into the top right hand corner.

Murphy was busy between the posts early on in the game as the defending champions began with purpose and on the one occasion he was beaten he was bailed out by his defence on the goal-line.

Bohs settled soon afterwards, however, and had the ball in the net through Glenn Crowe but the goal was harshly ruled out after the Republic of Ireland striker was adjudged to have fouled Derry goalkeeper Pat Jennings.

Killian Brennan was the first to test Murphy in the second half but his tame shot was comfortably saved.

Ciaran Martyn's shot was similarly weak minutes later and the striker really should have put Derry ahead in the 70th minute but directed a free header high over the bar.

Bohemians' Stephen Rice attempted to curl one into the bottom corner immediately afterwards but Jennings had it covered.

Crowe tested Jennings in the 82nd minute but the Derry stopper pushed the shot over the bar and despite some open play at the death the game was forced into extra time.

Derry's Barry Molloy was first to get a sight of goal in the first period of extra-time as the homeside attacked the Brandywell Road end, but the midfielder shot well over.

It was McHugh, however, who stole the show with a stunning strike minutes later that was worthy of winning any silverware.

Derry kept the ball well for the remainder of extra-time and ultimately kept their hands on the League Cup for another year, much to the delight of the home fans.
