A Dublin student has lodged an appeal against his conviction and nine month sentence for violent disorder outside the Burlington Hotel in Dublin in August 2000.
Lawyers for Desmond Ryan (23), of Cunningham Road, Dalkey, have lodged papers for his appeal with the office of the Court of Criminal Appeal, it emerged yesterday.
It is expected they will apply to the CCA for an early date for the hearing of that appeal.
Ryan was acquitted by a jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court earlier this month of the manslaughter of Mr Brian Murphy outside the Burlington Hotel in August 2000 but was convicted of violent disorder.
He was jailed for nine months which sentence was deferred to May 31st by Judge Michael White to allow Ryan take his final examinations in Agricultural Science at University College Dublin.
In a statement to gardai, Ryan had admitted punching Mr Murphy twice as Mr Murphy was on the ground.
