1. January 12th: Lance Bombardier Stephen Restorick (23), Orton, Malbourne, Peterborough, England. Shot dead at checkpoint duty at Bessbrook, Co Armagh.

2. March 14th: John Slane (44), Thames Court, Belfast. A Catholic man shot in the kitchen of his home near the Falls Road by loyalists.

3. March 24th:The Rev David Templeton (42), Newtownabbey, Co Antrim. Died from injuries he received in so-called punishment beating on February 7th 1997.

4. May 8th: Robert Hamill (25), Obin area, Portadown, Co Armagh. A Catholic beaten by a gang of loyalists on April 27th after leaving a function in St Patrick's Hall in Portadown. He suffered a fractured skull.

5. May 9th: Darren Bradshaw (24), RUC reservist. Shot as he drank with friends in the Parliament Bar on Dunbar Link in Belfast by an INLA gunman.

6. May 12th: Sean Brown (61), Bellaghy, Co Derry. Chairman of the local GAA Club, he was abducted from outside the club and killed by the LVF.

7. 18th May: William Harbinson, Hopewell Crescent, North Belfast. Handcuffed and beaten to death, his body was found an in alleyway. Believed to have been carried out by loyalists.

8. June 1st: Greg Taylor (41), Ballymoney, Co Antrim. Off-duty RUC officer, he was kicked and bea ten to death in an attack outside a bar in Ballymoney. Fifteen men arrested belonged to loyalist bands.

9. June 11th: Robert Bates (48), Belfast. One of the "Shankill Butchers", he was shot three times in the back of the head as he arrived at a prisoners drop-in centre in the Shankill area. Believed to have been in revenge for a Protestant victim.

10. June 16th: Constable Roland John Graham (34), Richhill, Co Armagh. Shot on foot patrol in Lurgan, Co. Armagh by the IRA.

11. June 16th: Reserve Constable David Johnston (30), Lisburn, Co Armagh. Shot on foot patrol in Lurgan, Co Armagh, by the IRA.

12. July 7th: Brian Morton (34), Dunmurry, Belfast. Body found after small explosion at loyalist Seymour Hill. It was thought he was handling explosives.

13. July 15th: Bernadette Martin (18), Craigavon, Co Armagh. Shot in her boyfriend's house in Aghalee, Co Antrim, when a gunman entered through an unlocked door and shot her four times at close range. She was a Catholic, her boyfriend a Protestant.

14. July 24th: James Morgan (16), Annsborough, Co Down. A Catholic youth abducted as he hitched a lift from Newcastle to his home in Annsborough. He was beaten to death and his body was recovered from a water-filled hole in Clough on July 27th.

15. August 1st: Stuart Hunter (24), Ballymullock Road, Larne, Co Antrim. A Protestant, his body was found lying by the roadside three miles outside Larne on Ballymullock Road. Died as a result of injuries received in paramilitary-style attack.

16. October 25th: Glen Greer (28), Kilcooley Estate, Bangor, Co Down. Killed in booby trap explosion under his car. Killing believed to be linked to feud between loyalist factions.

17. December 5th: Gerry Devlin (36), Pembroke Court, Glengormley. Shot dead at St Enda's GAA club in Glengormley, Belfast. Loyalist Volunteer Force believed to be responsible.

18. December 27th: Billy Wright (36), Portadown, Co Armagh. Leader of LVF. Killed by INLA inmates inside the Maze prison.

19. December 27th: Seamus Dillon (46), Stewartstown, Co Tyrone. A security guard and former republican prisoner, he was shot at Glengannon Hotel in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, in an LVF attack on the hotel hours after the killing of Billy Wright.
