Police investigating the murder of a Belfast man as he lay in bed with his pregnant wife have appealed for information on the movement of a vehicle.

John Joseph Mongan (30) was attacked with a machete and hatchet after a gang broke into the couple's house in Fallswater Street in west Belfast on Thursday. Three people have appeared in court.

Police believe that a Isuzu Trooper sports utility vehicle, registration VRM CNZ 5680, was in the area of Fallswater Street at around 2.30am on the night of the murder.

The vehicle was later seen travelling west on the M1 Motorway and is believed to have passed through Clogher village shortly before 3.30am.

The burnt out vehicle was discovered at Derrybrick Road, Kesh, Co Fermanagh, at around 9am.

Mr Mongan's two young sons are understood to have witnessed the attack. His wife, who was injured in the attack, later gave birth to another son.
