A Garda detective was found shot dead in his office in Dublin early this morning.
A spokeswoman confirmed the officer was found by a colleague in the office of the Dublin Garda Metropolitan headquarters in Harcourt Square.
She said gardaí were not looking for anybody else in relation to the death.
The detective, who was licensed to carry a firearm, was attached to the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NBCI).
The NBCI investigates serious crimes including murder, serious and organised crime, anti-racketeering, domestic violence, serious sexual assaults, and paedophilia.
Other sections located in the building include the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation, Criminal Assets Bureau, Community Relations Section, Special Detective Unit, Command and Control Centre, and the Assistant Commissioner's Office, Dublin Metropolitan Region.
