An unemployed man who offered child pornography computer files to a detective operating in a Garda Internet monitoring unit has had his sentence adjourned at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Mark McElwee (33), of The Laurels, Dundrum, asked in a chat-room on the Internet if there were any elderly gentlemen who wanted to chat about young girls.

Det Garda Michael Moran had received confidential information that someone was involved in child pornography, and logged on to a chatroom in July 1999 using an alias. After the chat, files were sent to Det Garda Moran and he found they contained child pornographic images.

Judge Yvonne Murphy adjourned sentence until July 31st for a psychiatric report.
