Disabled boy to be paid £2.6m

A boy, severely disabled in a road crash five years ago following which his mother died, is to be paid £2

A boy, severely disabled in a road crash five years ago following which his mother died, is to be paid £2.6 million under a settlement approved by the High Court yesterday.

Eoin Nolan, now aged 11, of Seatown Road, Swords, Co Dublin, was a rear-seat passenger in a car driven by his mother, Ms Mary Nolan, which was in collision with another car in Slane, Co Meath, on August 18th, 1993.

The boy is still being cared for in St Paul's Unit of Beaumont Hospital and, it is claimed, will require constant care for the rest of his life.

Much of the £2.6 million included in the settlement figure is for long-term medical care and for the adaptation of the family home to accommodate Eoin.
