Disruption to flights between New York and Ireland West Airport in Knock, Co Mayo, is set to continue for several days, while flights on the Boston-Knock route have returned to normal service.

An estimated 40 of about 240 passengers stranded with the Flyglobespan airline in New York since last Thursday are expected to arrive home tomorrow.

However, 146 Flyglobespan passengers bound for New York two days ago were informed last night that the first available flight for them would be on Thursday.

The passengers were making alternative arrangements yesterday, having already spent one night in a Claremorris hotel at the airport's expense.

Flyglobespan said it recognised the "severe inconvenience caused" and "would like to apologise for these cancellations and delays".

Passengers affected may transfer to any available alternative date or receive a full or partial refund, it said.

The airline said passengers can contact customer relations by ringing 0044 131 441 1388.

Ireland West Airport has also established a 24-hour telephone helpline at 094-936 8100.
