The future of the hyperbaric chamber at University College Hospital Galway is in danger despite the fact that nine divers were treated there over the past six weeks alone.
Consultant anaesthetist at UCHG, Dr Noel Flynn, said the development of a new hyperbaric chamber in Galway seemed to have been dropped altogether from the National Development Plan.
"I can't see how much longer the diving club and ourselves can continue to provide this service. I heard recently that the only other medical chamber in the country, which is in the North, is closing down," said Dr Flynn.
