Investigations are under way in Co Donegal into the cause of the collision between a car and a bus carrying students which happened on a dangerous bend around 4.30 pm.

The bus which was travelling from Derry had collected 28 school students when it collided with the car, which was travelling from Ballybofey.

The driver of the Volkswagen Passat car, a 34-year-old man from Letterkenny, was cut free from the wreckage but died a short time later in hospital.

Two students, the bus driver and a pensioner received minor injuries in the collision.

The N13 remained closed at Kilross until mid-morning following the collision.
