Between 17 and 30 people were killed last night in violence in southwestern Colombia.
Gen Fernando Tapias, commander of Colombia's armed forces, said 17 people were confirmed dead in two attacks, presumably by right-wing paramilitaries, authorities said.
Other reports placed the number of dead as high as 30 in the attacks in the southwestern town of Buga.
Authorities said the attackers were members of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia paramilitary group.
