Gardaí are to prepare a file for the DPP after last night releasing two men without charge following a €160,000 drugs seizure in Cork.

Officers from the Cork City Divisional Drugs Squad arrested two men in their early 20s in the Wilton area of the city on Friday night.

The arrests came after gardaí recovered 15kgs of cannabis resin and almost 5kgs of cannabis herb from a car in Wilton.

The two men – who are both from the southside of the city – were arrested at the scene under drugs trafficking legislation.

Gardaí estimate the cannabis resin had a street value of €105,000 and the cannabis herb had a value of €55,000.

The men were both brought to Togher Garda Station for questioning about the find but were released last night without charge.

Gardaí, who believe the drugs were destined for the Cork market, will now prepare a file on the matter for the DPP, said a garda source.

The Friday night seizure was the result of an ongoing operation by Cork City Divisional Drugs Squad against cannabis dealing in the city.
