Work has begun on the removal of the large crowd control barrier at Drumcree bridge as the massive annual security operation begins to wind down.
Violence flared in the area on Sunday when Orangemen clashed with police, leaving 32 officers injured, five of them seriously.
Twelve men have been detained by police, with more arrests expected.
A police spokesman said the "comparatively low-level of disorder" in and around Drumcree church since Sunday had allowed officers to review the security arrangements.
"As a result, there has been an ongoing programme of reduction in the physical barriers. Fencing and wire have been removed from a number of locations and work began this morning on the replacement of the large crowd control obstacle on Drumcree bridge with a smaller barrier," he said.
"The capability remains to put the barriers back in place immediately if required."
