Of Dublin's theatres only the Civic Theatre in Tallaght will open on bank holiday Monday, with a performance of Brian Friel's Lovers.

In Cork the Opera House is home to the Choral Festival with a performance today and tomorrow, while Galway's Taibhearc na Gaillimhe is performing Thy Will Be Done tonight and tomorrow. There will be upwards of 2,000 walkers in the Slieve Bloom Mountains for the sixth annual walking festival. Details on (0509) 37247.

Many of Wicklow's gardens will be opened to the public today as the summer Garden Festival gets under way. Information from Wicklow County Tourism at (0404) 66058.

The dangers of swimming and paddling in the reservoir at Pollaphuca, Co Wicklow, are being stressed by the ESB. Swimming is forbidden at the reservoir, often referred to as Blessington Lakes.

For those planning to get away, Aer Rianta is advising passengers to allow extra time to get to airports. The authority says it will be handling over 194,000 passengers over the weekend.

Iarnrod Eireann is warning of major disruption to its DART services over the weekend, until noon on Monday. All northbound services will terminate at Lansdowne Road station, and all south-bound will terminate at Pearse Station. A limited shuttle bus service will run between the stations.

A Sunday service will operate on the DART and the Cobh/Cork Arrow service on Monday. Also on Monday, the suburban services to Kildare, Dundalk, Drogheda, Arklow and Maynooth will be cancelled.

Bus Eireann says services on Monday will operate as on a Sunday, with some alterations. To car drivers, the Irish Medical Organisation has joined the National Safety Council in appealing for a "slowdown".

Leinster

Filming in Temple Bar will cause obstruction in Aston Place from Fleet Street to Aston Quay. Drivers will welcome the reopening of the N7 which links Dublin to the south and south-west. In Westmeath, resurfacing work on the N4 east of Rathowen village means temporary lights are in operation.

Munster

In Cork, bridge construction work continues on Lancaster Quay. Traffic and parking will not be allowed there, on the righthand side between the junctions with Little Hanover Street and Woods Street.

Connacht/Ulster

There are realignment works on the N16 Sligo-Enniskillen road, four miles west of Manorhamilton. Speed restrictions are in operation.

Drivers should be cautious on the Donegal by-pass, with temporary lights on the N15, just north of Donegal town.
