An initiative is being unveiled today in a bid to ease congestion on Dublin's streets.
The Dublin Transportation Office (DTO) is challenging car users to leave their vehicles at home for some of their journeys and think of the alternatives.
The One Small Step campaign aims to get drivers to use buses, trains and trams for the odd journey each week.
The DTO is targeting people who live in the city and the car-crowded suburbs to support the initiative.
Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey said he wanted to see a "world-class public transportation system" in place in Dublin so people will have the option to leave their cars at home.
The Minister said he planned to develop coastal cycle and pedestrian pathways in Dublin and develop a national cycle network "so that cycling becomes a safe and easy option for people to choose".
"I want to see all Government agencies and departments working more closely with the public to ensure that where possible, options exist for those who want to leave their cars at home even for short journeys," he said.
"We all are impatient to free up our streets from heavy traffic so that we can enjoy a healthier more sustainable travel experience."
