For the second year in succession, the family of Ms Sophie Toscan du Plantier, the French woman who was murdered in her west Cork holiday home, has appealed for anyone with information about the murder to come forward.
At a commemorative Mass yesterday Ms du Plantier's aunt, Ms Marie Madeleine Opaka, thanked the 60-strong congregation for their presence, and the Garda and the local people who had shown such sympathy during their grief.
Ms Opaka again suggested that someone knew something about the crime and could help the Garda inquiry. "Please, please, try to help the police," she asked.
The parish priest, Father Denis Cashman, also appealed for help with the inquiry into the unsolved murder. His prayers were for peace for the family, its happiness and for "justice for all".
Ms du Plantier's murder two years ago rocked the West Cork area where the 38-year-old Frenchwoman had a holiday home. Her bruised and battered body was found near her driveway and led to a massive Garda investigation. No one has been arrested for the crime and the Garda file remains open. According to senior Garda sources in West Cork there have been some positive new developments and the file, which has been given to the Director of Public Prosecutions, remains active.
