Visitors to Dublin airport will have to pay up to €10 more to park their cars from today as parking charges are increased.
The hike in parking charges, which includes a rise in the daily short-term rate from €30 to €40, has been introduced to deter drivers from parking in short-term when they plan to stay for longer than an hour, Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) said.
It claimed that 60 per cent of visitors to the airport park for under one hour.
"These customers typically visit the airport to meet and greet incoming passengers. This means there will be no increase in car parking charges for the majority of users of the short-term car parks at Dublin airport," the DAA said.
Short-term parking charges for up to an hour will not be affected by the charge increases, but drivers who park there for longer than an hour will now be charged €4.50 per hour. The daily rate in long-term car parks has also jumped from €8.50 to €9.50.
The DAA last increased its parking charges in January 2006.
