More than 1.4 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in January, an 11 per cent increase on the same month last year, figures published today showed.
Dublin Airport Authority said a record number of passengers flew to and from North America, with 78,000 travellers pushing the figure up 3 per cent.
Passenger traffic to and from continental Europe rose by 25 per cent, with over 680,000 taking to the skies, while UK traffic remained relatively unchanged compared to January 2006, with 615,000 people travelling.
Over 57,000 passengers took domestic flights within the state, 8 per cent up on last year. Trips to the Middle-East (Dubai and Bahrain), northern Africa (Morocco, Agadir) and South Africa also rose by 65 per cent with more than 20,000 passengers travelling.
