A cash dispenser at a Dublin bank gave customers an unexpected double-money bonus, it emerged today.

A cash dispenser at a Dublin bank gave customers an unexpected double-money bonus, it emerged today.

The Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) at the Clonskeagh branch of AIB began dispensing double the amount of cash requested by customers for a period of hours yesterday.

A crowd began to gather around the machine as card-holders queued for what they hoped would be a guaranteed money-for-nothing scheme.

AIB said today they had not established how much money had been dispensed and were currently tracing the transactions.

"The mistake was due to human error and has since been rectified," Ms Catherine Burke, Head of Corporate Relations confirmed.

She said a decision on whether the extra money would be debited from customers’ accounts had not yet been made.
