Dublin Theatre Festival today announced details of its expanded 50th anniversary line-up for its September staging.
With over 220 performances featuring over 30 shows from 13 countries, the festival's Golden Jubilee celebrations have been billed as one of the biggest and brightest versions of the annual arts showcase yet.
The programme will including productions from Druid Theatre Company, The National Theatre (London), Pan Pan, The Abbey Theatre, The Gate Theatre and The 7 Fingers, as well as a number of quirky additions organised for the anniversary.
The Druid Theatre Company's production of Long Day's Journey into Night, Sankai Juku's Olivier Award-winning production Hibikiand The National Theatre's production of Alan Bennett's The History Boyswill also feature.
Ivanovby Anton Chekhov, from Budapest's renowned Katona Jozsef Theatre company, and new plays by Christian O'Reilly and Sebastian Barry, will be showcased.
The Abbey Theatre will also present a new take on The Playboy of the Western World, which relocates Synge's classic to contemporary Dublin in a new version by Bisi Adigun and Roddy Doyle.
In addition, the festival will take to the great outdoors with three major international productions playing at unusual locations around the city.
Leading Australian physical theatre and abseiling company Legs on the Wall will present On the Caseon an arena at George's Dock in the IFSC.
East of East Village - a late night season of burlesque, drag and cabaret form New York's alternative village scene - is another event, and across the city ghostly images of theatre facades, performers and productions will be projected at night onto buildings that were once theatres.
