A man received serious injuries in a knife attack in Kilbarrack north Dublin last night, gardai said today.

He was stabbed in Mount Olive Grove, a housing estate, in Kilbarrack. The man was taken to Dublin's Beaumont Hospital where his condition has been described as serious.

A garda spokesman confirmed the incident occurred at a house following a street party. Gardai revealed there had been a number of attacks over the weekend.

A 42-year-old remains in a serious but stable condition in Dublin's Mater hospital after he was stabbed in the stomach by muggers yesterday.

The man was attacked by two robbers with eastern European accents on the St Alphonsus Road in Drumcondra, in the Northside of the city, shortly before 2am.

They stabbed him in the stomach before stealing his wallet and are believed to have fled in the direction of Lower Drumcondra Road.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses, describing his attackers as believed to have been in their early twenties and both about 5ft 6ins or 5ft 7ins tall. In Cork, a man was stabbed on Saturday in the St John's Well area.

The man was repeatedly stabbed in the arm after being confronted by a gang of youths wearing masks some time between 3am and 3.40am.
