Dublin's Operation Freeflow seasonal traffic plan ends this afternoon, to be replace by a Garda operation focusing on routes leading into the capital.

Dozens of traffic gardaí were backed by student gardaí for the six-week anti-gridlock initiative for Christmas and the New Year. It was the eleventh year the scheme has been in place.

Congestion points such as Quality Bus Corridors, major traffic junctions and Luas interchanges were targeted for special attention.

The Operation Freelow website also provided real-time information on traffic conditions,  allowing commuters to plan their journeys to and from work.
