Dublin’s Jason Sherlock has been banned for 12 weeks for his part in an altercation with a Roscommon player during a Division 1 National Football League match at Parnell Park on February 10th.
The GAA’s Games Administration Committee investigated a number of clashes involving different players during the match. Sherlock’s hearing was due last month but he was unable to attend the Croke Park meeting as he was abroad.
Sherlock’s punishment for his dismissal for an alleged kick aimed at Roscommon’s Clifford McDonald applies from the date of the match.
The 1995 All-Ireland winner will miss Dublin’s next three NFL matches against Kerry (April 1st), Galway (April 8th), and Louth (April 15th). He will not be eligible to return to inter-county action until May 5th.
But the confirmed case of foot-and-mouth disease in Co Louth today have almost certainly ruled out the possibility of Gaelic Games fixtures taking place in the Republic in the next month.
Last month the GAC found Dublin midfield star Ciaran Whelan guilty of disrepute resulting from his sending off for an off-the-ball incident in the same NFL game. He received a four-week suspension.
Roscommon’s Frankie Dolan received an eight-week ban for his sending off in the that match after a sparring bout with Dublin defender Martin Cahill.
