Former Fine Gael leader Mr Alan Dukes has been appointed director general of the Institute of European Affairs, it was announced today.

Mr Dukes will take up his post on January 1st when the term of the incumbent Mr Joe Brosnan, expires. Mr Brosnan will continue to be involved with the Institute and its work in other ways.

The IEA is an independent self-governing body dedicated to analysis of the challenges posed by further European integration, evaluation of the strategic policy options having regard to Irish national interests and broad and comprehensive communication of the findings.
